It’s a major energy centre and many global leaders in oil and gas companies have their headquarters in Houston. Dallas, in the Texas county of Dallas, is the ninth-largest city in the United States and the third-largest in the state of Texas. Its population is more than 1.3 million. Dallas counts cowboys and oil barons as its past professional predecessors. Like their cowboy predecessors, Texans have a neo-frontier feel. They talk big, drink a lot, and tend to get into fights. But the profile today is far less boardwalk brawl and lasso, and far more finance and telecommunications. Dallas is a multicultural hub, with a vibrant arts scene and museums, galleries and performance venues to match.
Both Houston and Dallas are in the same humid subtropical climate zone (hot, humid summers and warm, mild, dry winters) and both cities have a professional major league sports team in three different sports. Despite that, both cities food-wise, and with respect to entertainment and recreation – are comparable. Houston is well stocked with world-class cultural institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Symphony, and the Houston Ballet, as well as Space Center Houston, an airport-style tourist attraction featuring interactives and displays about our space travel. Dallas is home to the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Symphony, and the Dallas Opera, as well as the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, a 66-acre park chockablock with 500,000 plants.
Overall, I think there is no real difference between Houston and Dallas. They are both modern buzzing cities and they both have an interesting history and lots of activity to see and enjoy.
